What Is RugProof?

RugProof is a free crypto rug pull checker and token safety scanner covering 56+ blockchains, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Tron and Sui. Paste any token's contract address and get an instant safety score out of 100, built from real contract security checks, live liquidity data, holder distribution and honeypot detection - no signup, no wallet connection, and completely free.

Beyond the scanner, RugProof includes 27+ additional free crypto tools for research, market tracking and quick calculations, all covered later in this guide.

How to Scan a Token, Step by Step

  1. Find the token's contract address. Get it from the project's official website, a trusted block explorer, or a DEX aggregator like DexScreener - never from a random Telegram or Discord message.
  2. Paste the address into the scanner on the RugProof homepage. Leave the chain selector on "Auto Detect" unless you already know exactly which blockchain the token is on.
  3. Click "Scan Token Now" and wait a few seconds while the scanner checks liquidity, contract permissions, taxes, holder concentration and honeypot behavior.
  4. Read your safety score and letter grade at the top of the report, then scroll through the individual Security Checks to see exactly what passed and what failed.
  5. Re-scan before any large purchase. Contract permissions and liquidity can change after the first check, so a "Re-scan now" button is available on every report.

How to Read Your Safety Score

Every scan produces a score from 0 to 100, along with a letter grade. Here's roughly how to interpret it:

  • 80-100 (A/B grade): The token passed most checks. Liquidity looks healthy, no honeypot behavior was detected, and holder distribution looks reasonable. Still not a guarantee - always do your own research.
  • 60-79 (C grade): Some warning signs were found. Read every failed or warned check carefully before deciding.
  • 40-59 (D grade): Multiple red flags were detected. Treat this as high risk.
  • Below 40 (F grade): The token failed critical checks, often including honeypot behavior, unlocked liquidity, or dangerous owner permissions. Avoid unless you fully understand and accept the risk.

The individual checks matter as much as the overall number - a single failed "Honeypot" check, for example, is a serious red flag even if other checks passed.

Which Blockchains Does RugProof Support?

RugProof supports 56+ blockchains for token scanning, split into two tiers:

  • Full contract-security analysis: Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Fantom, Cronos, zkSync Era, Linea, Blast, Mantle, Tron and dozens more EVM-compatible chains.
  • Market-data-only mode: A handful of newer or non-EVM chains (such as TON, Cardano, Polkadot and Osmosis) don't yet have a connected contract-security provider, so scans on these chains show liquidity, volume and trading activity checks only, clearly labeled as such.

You can see the full, current list of supported chains any time in the chain selector on the homepage scanner.

Using RugProof's Other Free Tools

The scanner is just the starting point. RugProof includes a full suite of free tools to round out your research:

  • Radar - see trending coins and the biggest 24-hour gainers and losers across every supported chain.
  • Smart Money Radar - spot coins with unusually high trading volume relative to market cap.
  • Honeypot Detector - a focused honeypot check using live buy/sell simulation on Ethereum, BNB Chain and Base, and static analysis everywhere else.
  • BTC Token Checker - check Bitcoin BRC-20 tokens by ticker for supply, mint progress and holder concentration.
  • Top Crypto Coins, Converter Calculator, and a full set of calculators and trackers for profit/loss, DCA, staking, gas fees, and more.

A Quick Pre-Buy Research Checklist

  1. Scan the contract address with the main RugProof Rug Checker.
  2. Cross-verify with the Honeypot Detector, especially for new or heavily-hyped tokens.
  3. Check Radar and Smart Money Radar to see if trading activity looks organic.
  4. Look at holder concentration and liquidity lock status in your scan report.
  5. Start with a small test purchase on any brand-new token before committing more funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is RugProof completely free to use?

Yes. Scanning tokens and using every tool on this site is completely free, with no signup, no subscription, and no limit on how many tokens or tools you can use.

Do I need to connect my wallet to scan a token?

No. You only need to paste a token's contract address. No wallet connection, private key, or seed phrase is ever required to use the scanner or any other tool on this site.

How long does a scan take?

A full scan, covering liquidity, contract security, taxes, holder distribution and honeypot detection, usually completes in under 15 seconds.

What does the safety score actually measure?

It combines liquidity depth and lock status, contract ownership and mint permissions, buy and sell tax percentages, honeypot behavior, and holder concentration into a single 0-100 score with a letter grade.

Is a high safety score a guarantee that a token is safe?

No. A high score means the token passed most automated checks at the time of the scan, which lowers common rug pull risks, but no automated tool can guarantee future behavior. Always treat it as a strong starting point, not a guarantee.

How many blockchains can I scan tokens on?

Over 56 blockchains are supported, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Tron and Sui, with new chains added over time.

What should I do if I don't know which chain a token is on?

Leave the chain selector on "Auto Detect." The scanner automatically finds the token's real trading pair and identifies the correct chain for you.

Can I re-scan a token to check for updates?

Yes, every scan report page has a "Re-scan now" button, since contract permissions and liquidity can change after the first check.

What other tools does RugProof offer besides the scanner?

RugProof offers 27+ free tools including Radar, Smart Money Radar, the Honeypot Detector, a BTC Token Checker, Top Crypto Coins, a Converter Calculator, and calculators for profit/loss, DCA, staking, gas fees and more.

Where should I start if I'm brand new to checking tokens for rug pulls?

Start by scanning any token you're considering with the main Rug Checker, then read the individual security checks in the report rather than just the overall score. Our companion guide on honeypot detection is also a great next read.
